'Paws in Pink' for Breast Cancer Care

The Guild of Master Bearcrafters is delighted to support the 'Paws in Pink' charity raffle, founded by Guild member Melanie Jayne, in aid of 'Breast Cancer Care'.

'Paws in Pink' was set up in memory of Melanie Jayne's mum Susan Culshaw, who sadly died from breast cancer at the age of fifty one.  Together with four of her Guild friends, Melanie has organised this very special way of celebrating what would have been her mum's 60th birthday this month.

Introducing the 'Paws in Pink' bears ...

'Paws in Pink' is dedicated to everyone who has suffered and survived breast cancer.  By making a donation to 'Paws in Pink's Just Giving page for Breast Cancer Care', you will automatically be entered into the draw to win one of the five donated bears and most importantly, you will be helping to support the vital work of the 'Breast Cancer Care' charity.

Full details of the bears and how to take part in the raffle can be found on the 'Paws in Pink' blog:

Breast cancer care is a registered charity - Registration No. 1017658 (England & Wales), SC038104 (Scotland)

Five Featured Artists

Five more of our 2013 fabulous featured Guild artists' creations, especially for your enjoyment!

Agnes Chauvet from France

'Martin' is an endearing classic teddy bear, created in a wonderfully timeless classic/vintage style. A bear with definite 'pick-me-up' appeal!

Joanne Livingston from the USA

'A teddy for bear'  taking yesterday's symbolic traditional teddy bear gently into the twenty first century, paw-in-paw with this stunning contemporary bear.

Sandra Hobbs from the United Kingdom

Sandra's bears have a wonderful wide-eyed, gentle appeal. Little Stefan is a study in simplicity, soft muted grey and ivory, a slightly careworn look.  A lovely, wistful little bear!

Natalia Tolstykina from Russia

'Mszizlav' a charming bear created from vintage plush. His dark brown fabric has been beautifully lifted with the contrasting inset muzzle and delightful heart embellishment on his body. A vintage style bear with an individual flair.

Thea de Bruin from the Netherlands

'Fleur' is part of a beautiful vintage style vignette. Careful ageing techniques have been used to give this piece a wonderful sepia effect. Wonderfully detailed!

Focus on Faces

The face of a teddy bear is without doubt, the most critical element of bear crafting. It has to bring the bear to life, give him a soul ... and of course, make someone special fall in love!

Created by Iryna Trushkovska from the Ukraine

Created by Gregory Gyllenship from the United Kingdom

Created by Michelle Lamb from the USA

Created by Paula Carter from the United Kingdom

Created by Zhanna Rassi from the Lebanon

Teddy bear faces are created in many guises - there are happy bears, sad bears, thoughtful bears, silly bears,  ... each bear's expression is unique to its creator.  Bearcrafters employ a wide range of technical skills, ranging from traditional to contemporary.  Our Guild Bearcrafters are driven in their desire to bring to life the 'perfect' face!

This week we invite you to enjoy our 'Focus on Faces' slideshow presentation on the Guild members' website.  We have an incredible range of talent displayed ... please come and see it before Friday 21st June 2013!

Silke Borrmann creator of 'The Mountaineers'

A word from Silke Borrmann
Creator of
Bearcrafter since 2001

Silke Borrmann

Even as a child I enjoyed handcrafts. Later the bears "happened". I can not tell you when it was, but after I had visited a design course, I created the first more classic bears from my own designs. The emergence of "The Mountaineers".

Today I most like to make nature bears. Here I use mainly alpaca and leather. In between, there are also small editions of classic bears and other animals.

Unfortunately, because of my job as a secretary in a company that programmed software for opticians, I have not much time for this wonderful hobby.

Since a few years I am a member of the Guild. Here the bear artist really find anything worth knowing: All about events, competitions, workshops, tips and trend and much more. In addition, members can exchange information with each other, present their latest creations and comment. The bears of the members will be presented in Showcases at the Guild Facebook or blog. It is well organized and is constantly updated, which is truly remarkable.

The Guild is really essential for the bear maker and here I only regret that I have not more leisure time".
